The Additive Manufacturing Customers Group (AMUG) has introduced the recipients of names of its 2025 scholarships.
Colleen Murray, Ph.D., a lecturer within the Division of Aerospace Engineering on the College of Maryland (UMD), has been awarded the Randy Stevens Scholarship, and Justin Levy, a third-year mechanical engineering scholar at The Ohio State College (OSU), has been awarded the Man E. Bourdeau Scholarship.
The scholarships recognise college students and educators who show a ardour and imaginative and prescient for additive manufacturing whereas working in direction of advancing training and business. The Man E. Bourdeau Scholarship, based by Man’s spouse, Renee Bourdeau, and financially supported by Challenge MFG, is awarded yearly to 1 school scholar. The Randy Stevens Scholarship, based and financially supported by Randy’s former employer, In’Tech Industries, is awarded yearly to 1 educator specializing in additive manufacturing. The recipients will attend this 12 months’s AMUG Convention in Chicago and current their work on stage on April 1st.
Olga Ivanova, Ph.D., Scholarship Committee co-chair, stated, “We had an impressive pool of candidates this 12 months. The choice course of was notably tough, as the highest two candidates for the Man E. Bourdeau Scholarship and the highest three for the Randy Stevens Scholarship obtained practically equivalent scores from the committee, making the ultimate choice particularly difficult.”
Learn extra from AMUG:
Colleen Murray obtained a doctoral diploma in mechanical engineering from UMD and is a lecturer within the college’s Division of Aerospace Engineering. Her analysis background is within the mechanical characterisation of composites and additively manufactured buildings. For her doctoral thesis, Murray targeted on the vitality absorption properties of additively manufactured honeycombs for crashworthiness purposes. She continues the analysis work on additive buildings by way of her tasks and people of undergraduates she oversees.
Norman Wereley, Ph.D., a College of Maryland Minta Martin Professor of aerospace engineering, stated in his letter of advice, “Dr. Murray is a superb communicator and an distinctive individual, chief, scholar, mentor and researcher. I can’t think about anybody extra deserving of the Randy Stevens Scholarship.”
Justin Levy turned concerned about 3D printing when he was 13 years outdated and now conducts analysis in laser powder mattress fusion and course of optimisation. As a scholar researcher in OSU’s Middle for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME), Levy works to optimise breakaway help methods for laser powder mattress fusion to cut back post-processing time and enhance workflow effectivity. He has additionally labored with CDME and Pantheon3D to carry the primary concrete 3D printer to Ohio, interned at Castheon, Inc., an ADDMAN Group Firm, was a fellow within the Nationwide Safety Innovation Community (NSIN) X-Drive program and can spend this summer season working on the REACT lab at Tinker AFB on methods for AM throughout the U.S. Air Drive.
Youping Gao, Castheon’s founder, chief scientist, & EVP, said in his letter of advice, “Justin’s sensible experience in additive manufacturing processes and his unwavering dedication to innovation make him an impressive candidate for this scholarship.”
